Iranian Non-Military Influence in Syria

Jusoor Center for Studies, in cooperation with the “InformaGENE” platform for analysis and visualization publishes analytical maps on the major active centers of Iranian non-military influence in Syria until early December 2021. These centers from which various religious, educational, cultural and economic activities are launched represent the civil aspect related to the large-scale and dangerous Iranian presence across Syria.
In mid-2021, Jusoor had also published a map of Iranian security and military posts in Syria, which is approximately spread across 300 main points, while the new map shows more than 111 non-military centers of Iranian influence on the Syrian map, where Iran is interested in its military and security presence, including the creation of affiliated local groups (proxies), as it is working strategically to strengthen its non-military presence, because Iran believes that such a presence has more chances of sustainability and regional and international acceptance than a direct military one, especially with the scenarios of partial solutions assumed in the near future of the Syrian issue.
The maps of Iranian non-military influence in Syria include the major economic facilities and institutions affiliated with the Iranian project, the most important seminaries, shrines, and Husseiniyas from which Shiism emerged and being spread to cover the Syrian governorates, as well as educational and cultural institutions that support the Iranian ideological extension, in addition to the relief activity centers that in turn serve the Iranian project by providing services for those working on the project and their families too. The relief activity centers, also tempt other societal elements to positively interact with the Iranian project, taking advantage of the difficult living conditions experienced by Syrian communities.
Moreover, "Jusoor Center" and “InformaGENE” platform support these maps with an analytical, political and social reading, looking closely at the non-military Iranian presence inside Syria and its causes, in order to make the picture of this project clear for researchers, experts and politicians and decision-makers who follow the Syrian affairs, and for those interested in studying the general project that crosses Iran's borders and threatens the region in full. Besides, tracking the map's developments and considering the analyses of the nature and causes of the Iranian presence in Syria, in fact, uncovers one of the goals of the Iranian project, which extends and exerts influences largely from Tehran to the Mediterranean, passing through Baghdad and then Damascus and is
.applied in various strategic governorates in a pace that can help building this project
